Children’s Education
Children’s Spiritual Education Program

Developing the moral capacities in our children is of fundamental importance, not only to their own future happiness, but to the service and advancement of our entire society.
Parents everywhere are looking for ways to give children this spiritual education, to lay the foundations for their children to have noble characters and fruitful lives.
This spiritual education program aims to nurture the hearts and minds of children. The emphasis is on helping children learn to reflect on and apply spiritual principles, such as love, unity and justice, to their own lives and to the lives of those around them.
Spiritual and moral education
Providing spiritual education for children has long been an element of the culture of the Bahá’í community. In neighbourhoods across the Australia, Bahá’ís and their friends offer moral education classes that nurture the hearts and minds of children, complementing the education they receive at school.

Open to all
These classes are open to children of all backgrounds and are often run in collaboration with their families. Drawing on the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith, the classes aim to inspire in children a love for God and the Founders of all the great religions in the world.
These classes include short lessons, activities to build social skills and friendships, games, stories that illustrate virtues like love, kindness, generosity, and art and music.

Empowering children to create a peaceful world
In the classes, the children explore universal principles that lay the foundation for a peaceful world. Some of these are:
- We are all one human family
- Valuing diversity
- Equality of women and men
- Need for the elimination of all forms of prejudice
- Caring for our environment
- Skills of peaceful problem
- solving through consultation
Baha’i education in state schools
The Baha’i Education for State Schools (BESS) has been in schools across the Gold Coast for over 15 years. Recently we were excited to open our first childrens classes at Merrimac State State School

We provide Baha’i education classes in public primary schools under the “Special Religious Education” or “Scripture” program. Students from any religious background are welcome to attend (with their parents’ permission).
Based on the teachings of Baha’u’llah, the classes emphasise the development of spiritual attributes or virtues and attempt to foster in students the knowledge, skills, understandings and values required to be world citizens. Students are encouraged to embrace the oneness of humankind in all its diversity.
The classes assist children to develop their spiritual nature, complementing the material and physical education provided by schools.
The classes include short lessons, games, stories, art and music. All Baha’i children’s classes are taught by volunteer local teachers who are and parents are welcome to sit in on the classes or to meet with the teachers at any time. If you are interested in your children learning virtues and spiritual values, then these classes may be for you…
